Company
The Cyber Threat is Global. So Are We.
Cyber threats cross geographic boundaries and so must we in order to help create the future defenders of cyber space. FIFTH DOMAIN users span across the world as we have provided our platform to global institutions to help ready their cyber workforces.
Story
From a classroom at ADFA to Assured AI.
FIFTH DOMAIN has been building places for cyber people to practise since 2015. The simulations came first, then the measurement, then the intelligence that reads both.

2014
The problem, met first hand
Matt Wilcox is invited to lecture in cyber security at the Australian Defence Force Academy, affiliated with UNSW, and develops key components of its Masters of Cyber Security program. Standing up practical, hands-on training environments there is what starts the company.
-
2015
FIFTH DOMAIN is founded
Launched in Canberra to solve the problem Matt met at ADFA: cyber people need somewhere real to practise, and someone has to build it.
-
2019
Backed, and recognised for collaboration
The AustCyber Projects Fund backs the Cyber Security Skills and Technology Accelerator with $1.19 million. FIFTH DOMAIN, AustCyber and the Canberra Institute of Technology win the Industry Collaboration Award at the ACT Training Awards for the ACT Cyber Security Skills Accelerator.
-
2022
iAwards, ACT
Winner, ACT Business and Industry Solution of the Year at the AIIA iAwards.
-
2023
Funded to scale
A $3 million grant from the Cyber Security Skills Partnership Innovation Fund for the Cyber National Assessment Program for Skills and Employment, and $3.4 million in venture capital. Excellence in Cybersecurity at the InnovationAus Awards for Excellence, and STEM Promoter of the Year at the Australian Cyber Security Awards.

Today
One intelligence, two forces
A decade of building scenarios becomes Tradecraft Intelligence, and CONNOR is the way in. LEAP.FROG turns a mission statement into a simulation, open-source XORCISE.AI runs AI agents through it, 5DPRO does the same for people, and the exercised experience becomes data products for AI development.
Assured AI
Taking the lead on Assured AI.
Assured AI is AI you can depend on. Not the most talked-about model this quarter, but models and agents that are as capable as the frontier, at prices that stay stable and affordable, and that will still be there for you next year.
It matters because organisations are building AI into how they operate. Once a model is inside the workflow, one that is withdrawn, repriced or quietly weakened is not an inconvenience. It is a capability gap.
And it matters what happens to the data the AI processes: where it goes, what it is used to train, and who can reach it. CONNOR answers from Tradecraft Intelligence, and Tradecraft is reached only through CONNOR. The corpus behind it is never handed over; what is handed over is the answer.
And it matters what counts as evidence. Every claim we make about an agent traces to a run. Every judgement is labelled as a judgement. Nothing is reported as done that was not observed to be done. The software is built to those rules before the marketing is.
It is about making sure that the AI we build into our organisations will be there for us.
Three rules the apps are written to
-
XORCISE.CODE
Emits status only. Any downstream decision is external.
A check is complete or incomplete, aligned or misaligned. There is no go/no-go field to game.
-
XORCISE.TUNE
AI preferences remain unexecuted judgments, never operator certification.
Every label says it is an AI judgement. Only execution evidence can mark a record verified.
-
XORCISE.CONTROL
Completing a tool call is not evidence that the agent improved.
An improvement cycle ends in a measured before and after, which may show regression or no change.
01
Capable
As capable as frontier models, and proven on missions rather than taken on trust.
02
Affordable
Prices that are stable and affordable. Open source where it can be, metered where it must be.
03
Accountable with data
Clear about the data it processes: where it goes, what it trains, and who can reach it.
04
Dependable
Built in Canberra to be built into your organisation, and to still be there for you.
Code of conduct
Seven rules we work by.
1
Choose national interest over our own prosperity
Never do anything to undermine the national interest of Australia.
2
Be respectful and professional
You are a representative of the company. Set the behaviour you expect of others. Don't perpetuate office politics. Manage conflict constructively.
3
Value each other, but value the goal more
Try to accommodate individual needs, but acknowledge it all needs to help us achieve company goals.
4
Push (don't break) yourself to grow so that you grow the company
Get outside your comfort zone. Try hard. Give more to get more. See challenge as fun opportunity for growth.
5
Say what you do and do what you say
Be forthcoming and honest about what you're doing and plan to do. Don't try to hide actions and intentions. Demonstrate trust to build trust.
6
Disagree and commit
Put your point forward. Have robust conversations. Engage in a contest of ideas. If a consensus is not found, a call will be made and you need to get behind it.
7
Succeed and celebrate
Hit your targets, achieve your goals, and celebrate the success with the team. Be honest about poor results and learn for next time.
Team
The people behind it.
Today, Matt, alongside a dedicated team of over 30 professionals, leverages their extensive operator experience in cybersecurity to enhance organizations' cyber workforce capabilities throughout the entire employee lifecycle.
